UANYC MEMBER APPRECIATION EVENT
The Greater New York Chapter is partnering with For|By|For for a Member Appreciation Event on the opening night of its inaugural NYC exhibition, Refuge: The Photography of RaMell Ross.

A southern-themed evening with great music and down home food, the event is FREE for UANYC members and friends. Food selection will include chicken biscuits from Pies 'n Thighs, crudite and pulled pork.
Music will be provided by Hudson Mueller of the Hudsons, a blues/folk/gospel band based out of New York City and Austin, Texas.

Drawn from the three-part series in RaMell Ross’ Black Belt Project, Refuge provides a visual account of the unyielding frustrations and fleeting gratifications experienced by the young adults participating in YouthBuild initiatives in the Black Belt community of Greensboro, Ala. The photographs in the exhibition provide haunting, and sometimes heartbreaking, insight into a world far removed from the everyday conversations of society. The three series that will be on display are taken with an outsider’s eye, exposing the obvious realities on the surface while inviting viewers to inquire about the resounding failures and silent triumphs that exist underneath.

The photographs in the exhibition, which runs from June 13-24 at the Wix Lounge, will be offered for sale with all proceeds donated to the YouthBuild USA program in Greensboro. YouthBuildUSA is a national youth and community development program that simultaneously addresses core issues facing low-income communities.
