WEEKHAWKEN, N.J. -- UANYC members joined Loy Singleton, Dean of the College of Communication and Information Sciences, and other C&IS faculty and staff for an alumni reception Friday, March 11 at the Chart House Restaurant in Weehawken, N.J.

The reception was in celebration of the University's Advertising and Public Relations program being named one of the five finalists for PRWeek's 2011 Education Program of the Year. This marked the third consecutive year that Alabama's PR program was recognized in the top five in the country.

Alabama finished third in the competition as Syracuse was crowned the 2011 winner with New York University placing second. Georgetown University and Brigham Young University were the other top five finalists. Judges evaluated the PR education programs based on faculty research productivity, student and faculty achievements, involvement of alumni, quality of internships, course innovations, campaigns and uses of new media, and other factors.

UA’s Department of Advertising and Public Relations, with more than 1,000 students, is the largest department in the College of Communication and Information Sciences.
